My Seaside Art Shack,  2020 - Louise Westgarth

art shack

My Art Shack installation was inspired by the works of Hélio Oiticica and Derek Jarman's Prospect Cottage showcasing several artistic skills including construction, ceramics, print and concrete poetry.

The idea behind this art shack was to provide a non-stereotypical, sophisticated and calming seaside inspired space where I or someone else could retreat to and engage in creative activity or contemplation.

The shack is constructed from old pallets, boarded panels, hessian fabric and corrugated plastic.

Many of the objects were sourced from a recycling centre and repurposed or found on the beach, the brushes for example were made from feathers, twigs, rope and other seaside debris.

Paper, chalks, pencils, paints, brushes and other materials were stored in boxes, jugs, mugs and other containers.
